Culture and Heritage

New York is a multi-cultural city where millions of immigrants began a new life in America. In the 19th and early 20th centuries mass immigration to the United States of America brought millions of settlers to the new country which promised a new way of life. Many of these passed through Ellis Island.

Within Manhattan there are a number of neighbourhoods which have a distinct cultural identity. These include Harlem, Little Italy and Chinatown.
