There is a vast range of accommodation available in New York City. Like in any city the cost of accommodation varies with:

Generally, accommodation on Manhattan is more expensive than in the other boroughs– because that’s where most of the tourist attractions are!

Not all areas of New York are perfectly safe for tourists, especially late at night and there may be disadvantages in having to get back to a hotel in the evening if it is not in a central location.

Sporting and other events add to the appeal of New York and major events are held in Madison Square Garden, plus the major sports stadiums such as the New York Giants Stadium. The New York Marathon appeals to thousands of tourists.
