Health & Safety Features
All bedrooms in Copthorne Hotels have a number of safety and security features. Some of these are a legal requirement and others are a Copthorne standard.
Activity 1
Suggest what the health, safety and security measures in the Copthorne’s bedrooms might be. Use images and virtual tours from the hotel's website to help you.
There are 8 features which could be identified. For each, suggest why they provide safety and security for guests.

Activity 2
In addition, a number of rooms have been designated as adapted rooms. These used to be identified as disabled rooms. These rooms have additional safety features for guests with special needs.
Suggest what they might be.
After completing the activities, use the video clip to reveal the range of health, safety and security features in standard and adapted rooms at the Copthorne Hotel (explained by Catherine Ingram, the Assistant Housekeeping Manager at the hotel.)
Risk Assessment – Housekeeping
The Copthorne Hotel has identified a number of hazards related to the housekeeping department.

Activity 3
Use virtual tours and images from the hotel’s website to gain a clear understanding of the nature of the environment of a hotel bedroom.
Think about the operations which could be described as a hazard and suggest what they might be. How many can you think of?
Part of the risk assessment exercise is to break jobs down into their component tasks and to identify the hazard for each.
Successful organisations, such as the Copthorne Hotel, anticipate every risk and prepare a risk assessment for the operation, no matter how trivial it may seem. Examples of risk assessments relating to housekeeping at the Copthorne Hotel are available.
Activity 4
Identify the hazards and existing controls on the Risk Assessment Form for cleaning windows.
