This resource is designed primarily to support students studying level 3 qualifications such as A level Travel & Tourism, as well as OCR and BTEC Nationals. These students are likely to progress into higher education to study hospitality, event or tourism management courses. They may also enter the industry and become managers.
Some sections of the resource may be used to support Level 2 specifications, such as the GCSE in Leisure and Tourism; however teachers will need to ensure that the activities and information are accessible to students.
For all managers in the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism industry, an understanding of Health, Safety and Security legislation and regulations is paramount. The objective of this resource is to provide students with an understanding of the range and scope of the legislation and regulations and how these impact on the management of different travel and tourism organisations.
As with other aspects of the travel and tourism industry, the management of health and safety is dynamic. Events over which the industry has no control can have major impacts. Legislation, regulations and directives are constantly being updated by government and regulators and these bodies may have their remit altered or may even be abolished by government at any time.
The information provided in this resource was relevant at the writing, which was the latter half of 2010 and early 2011.
