EVIDENCE LOG 1 – Promoting the Wales Coastal Path

Using the link http://www.walescoastpath.gov.uk/default.aspx, study the dissolving slogans and images used to promote the Wales Coastal Path. For each slogan think about the meaning and appeal, give a score out of 10 to show which ones you think are the most effective for promoting The Wales Coastal Path. Record your scores (and give reasons) on the Evidence Log before comparing your scores with a partner / other groups in your class.

Wales Coastal Path

INFORMATION

Opened in 2012, the Wales Coastal Path is the longest continuous coastal path around any country in the world. It stretches from the outskirts of Chester in the north to Chepstow in the south east; a distance of about 870 miles.

'Your exploration will take you from the mouth of the River Dee, along the north Wales coast with its seaside towns, over the Menai Strait onto the Isle of Anglesey, from the Llŷn Peninsula down the majestic sweep of Cardigan Bay, through Britain's only coastal National Park in Pembrokeshire, along miles of golden sand, via Gower with its stunning scenery, along the waterfront of Cardiff Bay and Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, to the market town of Chepstow'.

EVIDENCE LOG 2 – Promoting areas found on the Wales Coastal Path

The passage above outlines the route of the coastal path and uses positive language to describe some of the coastal areas of Wales. Think about how you would describe each of the areas in the table on the Evidence Log, using only positive language.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY – Create your own marketing material

The opening of the Wales Coastal Path has been used as a marketing tool by Visit Wales to attract visitors from other parts of the United Kingdom and abroad to the coastal areas of Wales.

Design a piece of promotional material to attract tourists to Wales to walk along the coastal path. Think about the 'Unique Selling Point' of the Wales Coastal Path. The material could take the form of:

  • A leaflet or flyer
  • A presentation
  • The front page of a website
  • A radio advertisement
  • A TV advertisement

Images from the Gallery page of the Wales Coastal Path website or other image libraries could be used to illustrate your material.
