JOB DESCRIPTION – document that describes the duties
of a worker and his/her status in the organisation
PERSON SPECIFICATION – a document that describes the sort of person required to do a particular job
applicant, including name, address, age, qualifications and experience
EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT – when an employee is appointed from outside the organisation
INTERNAL RECRUITMENT – when an existing employee is appointed to a post
HIERARCHY OF NEEDS – placing needs in order of importance, starting with basic human needs
MOTIVATION – in work, the desire to complete a task
AUTOCRATIC LEADER – tells others what to do without consulting them
DEMOCRATIC LEADER – seeks the views of others before making a decision
LAISSEZ-FAIRE LEADER - a leader who allows others to make their own decisions and only occasionally makes decisions for others
GROSS PAY – total earnings, including basic pay and overtime earnings
NET PAY – earnings after deductions – such as tax and pensions – have been taken away
PIECE RATES – a payment system where workers’ wages are determined by how much they produce
TIME RATES – a payment system where workers’ wages are determined by the hours that they work
TRADE UNION – an organisation which represents the interests of the workers who are its members
SHOP STEWARD – elected by workers to represent them
