The b) questions in the religious studies require descriptions. All 5 marks are available for a detailed and thorough description that includes good religious language and relevant sources of wisdom, where appropriate. They do not require explanation – keep this for the c) questions.

The examples below show where unnecessary explanation has become mixed up with description. In each, highlight the explanations which aren’t needed.

Mae cwestiynau b) mewn astudiaethau crefyddol yn gofyn am ddisgrifiadau. Mae pob un o'r 5 marc ar gael am ddisgrifiad manwl a thrylwyr sy'n cynnwys iaith grefyddol dda a ffynonellau o ddoethineb perthnasol, lle bo'n briodol. Nid oes angen esboniad – cadwch hyn ar gyfer cwestiynau c).

Mae'r enghreifftiau isod yn dangos lle mae esboniad diangen wedi'i gymysgu â disgrifiad. Ym mhob un, amlygwch yr esboniadau nad oes eu hangen.

The work of prison chaplains. (5 marks)

Esboniadau a disgrifiadau

Gwaith caplaniaid carchardai. (5 marc)

Chaplains of all religions (as well as Humanist chaplains) can help prisoners come to terms with their crimes by holding one-to-one and group counselling sessions. They would want to do this because self-awareness and taking responsibility for your actions are important ways in which you can rehabilitate yourself. Seeking and getting forgiveness is also very important because Jesus said that you should ‘forgive seventy times seven.’ Christian chaplains would pray with prisoners or read the Bible with them, if they wanted to. The Bible teaches that prayer is a way to connect with God and so is important. They can organise services in the prison chapel, and prisoners can receive Holy Communion. Some prisoners are allowed to get married in prison and the chaplain will conduct the ceremony. Catholic chaplains can offer the Sacrament of Confession/Reconciliation. Chaplains can organise educational opportunities, such as preparing for qualifications or a technical trade such as motor mechanics. They can also help with other activities such as hobbies in order to help prisoners focus their minds and get a job when they leave prison, which might stop them from re-offending. Chaplains can also make sure that prisoners’ families are kept informed of how the prisoner is getting on.

Gall caplaniaid pob crefydd (yn ogystal â chaplaniaid Dyneiddwyr) helpu carcharorion i ddod i delerau â'u troseddau trwy gynnal sesiynau cwnsela un-i-un neu sesiynau grŵp. Byddent am wneud hyn gan fod hunanymwybyddiaeth a chymryd cyfrifoldeb am eich gweithredoedd yn ffyrdd pwysig i chi adsefydlu eich hun. Mae ceisio a chael maddeuant hefyd yn bwysig iawn oherwydd dywedodd Iesu y dylech 'faddau saith deg saith gwaith.' Byddai caplaniaid Cristnogol yn gweddïo gyda charcharorion neu'n darllen y Beibl gyda nhw, os oeddent yn dymuno. Mae'r Beibl yn dysgu bod gweddïo yn ffordd o gysylltu â Duw ac felly mae'n bwysig. Gallant drefnu gwasanaethau yng nghapel y carchar, a gall carcharorion dderbyn y Cymun Bendigaid. Mae rhai carcharorion yn cael priodi yn y carchar a bydd y caplan yn cynnal y seremoni. Gall caplaniaid Catholig gynnig y Sacrament o Gyffes/Cymod. Gall caplaniaid drefnu cyfleoedd addysgol, fel paratoi ar gyfer cymwysterau neu grefft dechnegol fel mecaneg moduron. Gallant hefyd helpu gyda gweithgareddau eraill fel hobïau er mwyn helpu carcharorion i ganolbwyntio eu meddyliau a chael swydd pan fyddan nhw'n gadael y carchar, a allai eu hatal rhag aildroseddu. Gall Caplaniaid hefyd wneud yn siŵr bod teuluoedd carcharorion yn cael gwybod sut mae'r carcharor yn dod yn ei flaen.

Christian beliefs about life after death. (5 marks)

Esboniadau a disgrifiadau

Credoau Cristnogol am fywyd ar ôl marwolaeth. (5 marc)

Christians believe that all humans have a soul which connects them to God and is eternal. They believe this because in the Genesis story, God made humans imago Dei (in his image), and so everyone has qualities such as free will, conscience and reason. When a person dies, Christians believe the soul lives on and that there is a Day of Judgment when God will decide where your soul goes, based on your moral actions and whether you have truly ‘loved your neighbour’. They believe this because in the Bible, there is a parable called ‘The Sheep and the Goats’ where God separates those ‘sheep’ who have done good things for other people from those ‘goats’ who have ignored or failed to help those who needed help. The soul can go to Heaven which is considered to be a state of bliss in God’s presence, or to Hell which is considered to be a state of permanent absence from God. They believe this because in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, the Rich Man ends up in Hell because he ignored Lazarus’ suffering, whilst Lazarus goes to Heaven. Also, Jesus himself said ‘In my Father’s House are many rooms’ – which proves that Heaven exists. Catholic Christians believe that there is a state of purification before going to Heaven; this is called Purgatory. There is not much in the Bible about Purgatory, but it has been a part of Catholic belief and tradition for a long time.

Christians have different views about resurrection. They all believe that Jesus was resurrected because the Bible tells this story, but some would say that the body and soul are resurrected, and others would say it’s just the soul. Also, some Christians believe that God judges each person when they die, but others think that there will be a Day of Judgement when everyone who has died will be resurrected together. They have these differences because they interpret the Bible differently.

Mae Cristnogion yn credu bod gan bob bod dynol enaid sy'n eu cysylltu â Duw ac sy'n dragwyddol. Maen nhw'n credu hyn oherwydd yn stori Genesis, gwnaeth Duw pobl yn imago Dei (yn ei ddelwedd), ac felly mae gan bawb rinweddau fel ewyllys rydd, cydwybod a rheswm. Pan fydd person yn marw, mae Cristnogion yn credu bod yr enaid yn parhau i fyw a bod Dydd y Farn pan fydd Duw yn penderfynu lle mae eich enaid yn mynd, yn seiliedig ar eich gweithredoedd moesol a p'un a wnaethoch wir 'garu eich cymydog’. Maen nhw'n credu hyn oherwydd yn y Beibl, mae dameg o'r enw 'Y Defaid a'r Geifr' lle mae Duw yn gwahanu'r 'defaid' hynny sydd wedi gwneud pethau da i bobl eraill o'r 'geifr' hynny sydd wedi anwybyddu neu fethu helpu'r rhai oedd angen help. Gall yr enaid fynd i'r Nefoedd sy'n cael ei ystyried i fod yn gyflwr o ddedwyddwch ym mhresenoldeb Duw, neu i Uffern sy'n cael ei ystyried i fod yn gyflwr o absenoldeb parhaol oddi wrth Dduw. Maen nhw'n credu hyn oherwydd yn Nameg y Dyn Cyfoethog a Lasarus, mae'r Dyn Cyfoethog yn diweddu yn Uffern oherwydd ei fod wedi anwybyddu dioddefaint Lasarus, tra bod Lasarus yn mynd i'r Nefoedd. Hefyd, dywedodd Iesu ei hun 'Yn nhŷ fy Nhad y mae llawer o drigfannau' (sef ystafelloedd), sy'n profi bod Nefoedd yn bodoli. Mae Cristnogion Catholig yn credu bod cyflwr o buredigaeth cyn mynd i'r Nefoedd; gelwir hyn yn Burdan. Does dim llawer yn y Beibl am Burdan, ond mae wedi bod yn rhan o gred a thraddodiad Catholig ers amser maith.

Mae gan Gristnogion wahanol farn am yr atgyfodiad. Maen nhw i gyd yn credu bod Iesu wedi ei atgyfodi oherwydd mae'r Beibl yn dweud y stori hon, ond byddai rhai yn dweud bod y corff ac enaid yn cael eu hatgyfodi, a byddai eraill yn dweud mai'r enaid yn unig sy'n cael ei atgyfodi. Hefyd, mae rhai Cristnogion yn credu fod Duw yn barnu pob person pan fyddan nhw'n marw, ond mae eraill yn meddwl y bydd Dydd y Farn pan fydd pawb sydd wedi marw yn cael eu hatgyfodi gyda'i gilydd. Mae'r gwahaniaethau hyn yn bodoli oherwydd eu bod yn dehongli'r Beibl yn wahanol.
