There are a range of factors that need to be considered when ensuring that a child stays healthy.

Healthy balanced diet - Supports physical health and growth. Poor diet can contribute to poor moods, anxiety and behavioural problems.

Good hydration - Helps muscles and joints work better. Promotes cardiovascular health. Regulates your body temperature. Helps transport nutrients to give energy. If there is not good hydration, the body can't perform at its highest level and an individual may feel tired, have muscle cramps or dizziness.

Regular sleep patterns - Not enough sleep can cause irritability, stress, anxiety and bad moods. A healthy sleeping pattern can enhance mood and promote feelings of energy and well-being.

Rest - Helps both the mind and body recuperate and switch off from pressures.

Exercise and physical activity - Builds muscles, confidence and coordination. Exercise and physical activity improves mental well-being and mood as it releases serotonin and endorphins, which has links to reductions in anxiety and stress.

Routine - A routine helps a child or young person feel in control and gives structure. Poor routines or lack of purpose can have a negative impact on mental health.

Family and friends - Being close to friends and family and having healthy relationships supports emotional well-being and supports a sense of belonging.

Self-esteem - Low self-esteem damages mental health and well-being.
