Sectorau

There are a number of different service providers that provide health, social care and children’s services. These service providers fall under different sectors. The different sectors are known as:

  • The statutory care sector
  • Private care sector
  • Voluntary care sector
  • Informal care.

Service provision within each of these sectors is categorised as either:

  • Healthcare provision - services that meet individual health needs and is available to individuals of all age groups
  • Social care provision – for those that are requiring some form of social care, such as individuals with disabilities or those that are elderly
  • Childcare provision – services that are available for children.

Mae nifer o ddarparwyr gwasanaethau gwahanol sy'n darparu gwasanaethau iechyd, gofal cymdeithasol a phlant. Mae'r darparwyr gwasanaethau hyn wedi'u cynnwys mewn sectorau gwahanol. Gelwir y sectorau gwahanol fel a ganlyn:

  • Y sector gofal statudol
  • Y sector gofal preifat
  • Y sector gofal gwirfoddol
  • Gofal anffurfiol.

Caiff y gwasanaethau a ddarperir o fewn pob un o'r sectorau hyn eu categoreiddio naill ai fel:

  • Darpariaeth gofal iechyd - gwasanaethau sy'n diwallu anghenion iechyd unigol ac sydd ar gael i unigolion o bob grŵp oedran
  • Darpariaeth gofal cymdeithasol – i'r sawl y mae angen rhyw fath o ofal cymdeithasol arnynt, fel unigolion ag anableddau neu sy'n oedrannus
  • Darpariaeth gofal plant – gwasanaethau sydd ar gael i blant.

The statutory sector

Y sector statudol

The statutory care sector includes NHS trusts and local authority services and it is the largest care sector in Wales. Statutory sector services have to be provided by law. They are paid for by the government, through money deducted from taxes.

Some statutory services can include:

  • Health care – NHS, GP surgeries, dentists
  • Social care - social services, residential and nursing care homes, home care, child and family support services, youth offending services, youth work, support groups, care and support at home, homeless shelters, day centres, counselling services, advice bureau
  • Childcare services – pre-school provision, schools.

In Wales, health boards are responsible for statutory health services. There are 7 local health boards in Wales. They are responsible for:

  • assessing the health needs of the population
  • commissioning health care
  • monitoring the effectiveness of services
  • reducing health inequalities.

Mae'r sector gofal statudol yn cynnwys gwasanaethau ymddiriedolaethau'r GIG ac awdurdodau lleol a dyma'r sector gofal mwyaf yng Nghymru. Rhaid i wasanaethau'r sector statudol gael eu darparu yn ôl y gyfraith. Mae'r llywodraeth yn talu amdanynt, drwy arian a ddidynnir o drethi.

Gall rhai gwasanaethau statudol gynnwys:

  • Gofal iechyd – y GIG, meddygfeydd meddygon teulu, deintyddion
  • Gofal cymdeithasol - gwasanaethau cymdeithasol, cartrefi gofal preswyl a nyrsio, gofal cartref, gwasanaethau cymorth plant a theuluoedd, gwasanaethau troseddwyr ifanc, gwaith ieuenctid, gofal a chymorth yn y cartref, llochesi i unigolion digartref, canolfannau dydd, gwasanaethau cwnsela, canolfan cyngor
  • Gwasanaethau gofal plant – meithrinfeydd, ysgolion.

Yng Nghymru mae byrddau iechyd yn gyfrifol am wasanaethau iechyd statudol. Mae 7 bwrdd iechyd lleol yng Nghymru. Maent yn gyfrifol am y canlynol:

  • asesu anghenion iechyd y boblogaeth
  • comisiynu gofal iechyd
  • monitro effeithiolrwydd gwasanaethau
  • lleihau anghydraddoldebau iechyd.

The private sector

Y sector preifat

These services are run as a business to make a profit and receive funding only from patients and/or their insurance policies.

This includes private companies who may provide:

  • day care for children – crèche/day nursery
  • health care – BUPA, dentists
  • social care - residential/nursing homes, personal assistants
  • self-employed practitioners – childminders, personal assistants, private nurses.

Caiff y gwasanaethau hyn eu rhedeg fel busnes er mwyn gwneud elw a dim ond gan y cleifion a/neu eu polisïau yswiriant y cânt gyllid.

Mae hyn yn cynnwys cwmnïau preifat a all ddarparu'r canlynol:

  • gofal dydd i blant – crèche/meithrinfa ddydd
  • gofal iechyd – BUPA, deintyddion
  • gofal cymdeithasol – cartrefi preswyl/nyrsio, cynorthwywyr personol
  • ymarferwyr hunangyflogedig – gwarchodwyr plant, cynorthwywyr personol, nyrsys preifat.

The voluntary sector

  • Stroke association.

Local support groups using volunteers

  • play groups
  • mother and toddler groups
  • counselling and bereavement groups.

Not-for-profit organisations with paid employees

  • Barnardo's
  • NSPCC
  • Childline
  • Macmillan
  • Hospice of the Valleys.

Gofal anffurfiol

This type of care is carried out by individuals who want to help others and are usually unpaid, such as:

  • family
  • friends
  • neighbours
  • local church groups.
