Being accurate

WJEC EDUQAS

Experimental design concerns the nature of the participants. In the case below this would be those who were approached by the confederate in the shopping centre.
From the two responses below decide which is accurate by clicking on it.

A male confederate was in a shopping centre for three hours on two different Monday mornings. On the first Monday he wore a suit and on the second he wore gym clothing. Each Monday he asked passers-by if they would be willing to sign up to the same children’s charity. The research used an opportunity sample.

(c) Identify and explain the experimental design that has been used in the above research.

[2]

The experimental design used was repeated measures, as the same participants took part in both conditions.
The experimental design used was independent groups, as different participants took part in each condition.

Why would this correct answer only receive 1 mark?

Improve your answer here:

The experimental design used was independent groups, as different participants took part in each condition. For example, the passers-by approached by the confederate in the shopping centre on the first and second Monday mornings are likely to have been different people.
