Term

Definition

  • Exons
  • Introns
  • STR
  • PCR
  • DNA polymerase
  • Coding sections of DNA
  • Non-coding sections of DNA
  • Repeated sections of nucleotides ion introns
  • Used to amplify small pieces of DNA for analysis
  • Enzyme used to attach new nucleotides to DNA

PCR occurs in a thermocycler, move the boxes around below to give the order that the different temperatures occur at and then name the process occurring at each temperature:

Name of process

  • 950C
  • 550C
  • 700C

  • Denaturing
  • Annealing
  • Extension

Limitations of PCR are:

  1. Possible contamination
  2. Increasing error rate
  3. Limit to fragment size
  4. Sensitive to inhibitors
  5. Limited amplification due to denatured enzymes, limited reagents and increased concentration of DNA causing a limited number of reactions.
